Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched an ambitious poverty eradication initiative, the P4 scheme, aiming to adopt and uplift millions of impoverished families, dubbed 'Bangaru Kutumbalu' or 'Golden Families.' Naidu and his family have personally committed to mentoring and supporting 250 families, urging officials, volunteers, and even the diaspora to join the movement. The government has set a target to adopt 1.5 million families by August 15, with thousands of mentors already mapped. However, the initiative has drawn criticism from opposition parties and teacher unions, who allege that employees are being pressured or coerced into participating. Despite the controversy, the government maintains that participation is voluntary and frames the program as a people’s movement to eliminate poverty by 2047.
